ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A Coldwater teenager was ordered to serve nine years in the Indiana Department of Corrections Monday in Steuben County Superior Court after he entered a guilty plea to a Level Three felony charge of child molesting.
18-year-old Zachary James Taylor will serve his Indiana sentence once his prison time in Michigan is done. Two years of the Indiana sentence was suspended by Judge William Fee, and Taylor was also placed on probation for two years. A no-contact order was also issued on behalf of the victim.
Taylor was sentenced last April to a Michigan Department of Corrections prison term of between 23 months and five years in Branch County Circuit Court after entering a no contest plea to a charge of attempted third degree criminal sexual conduct involving a girl who was 13 years old at the time. The Herald-Republican in Angola reports the victim in both crimes was the same girl.
Taylor was given credit for 183 days served in the Branch County Jail, but he will have to register as a sex offender with the State of Michigan.
In exchange for his Branch County plea, a second count of third degree C.S.C. was dropped by the Branch County Prosecutor’s Office.
Taylor was arrested in November 2018 following a Michigan State Police investigation.
