COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater Community Schools officials feel confident that a student apparently tried to dispose of two small caliber bullets they had in their possession by mistake in one of the toilets at Coldwater High School Monday morning.
Superintendent Terry Whelan says students found the bullets. She says they appreciate the students who made them aware of what they saw, as students and staff have been asked to be alert to what they see and hear around them.
No other bullets or firearms were found following an investigation and Whelan said they will continue to look into the situation.
Coldwater High School Principal Bill Milnes said students were assured there was no threat at about 9:20 a.m. Monday, but Milnes said some parents felt the need to pick up their youngsters from the school.
Milnes apologized that a phone call to parents did not occur more quickly and they are looking into why the system did not leave the message on some phones. He went on to say in a post on the high school’s Facebook page, “Please be assured that we will always react in an appropriate manner based on the information and investigations that we complete here at CHS in our continued efforts to provide a safe and secure environment for your children and the staff. We support whatever decisions parents need to make in regards to their children today as we continue to work together through situations like these as they occur.”
