COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Cardinal gymnastics team picked up a big win on Wednesday night against the Western High School Panthers. It was a nail biter that came down to the very last event where Coldwater tallied 132.95 points to Western’s 131.025 points. The Cardinals are now 4-2 in the conference.
Coldwater’s Abby Travelbee tied for second on the vault with a score of 8.45 points. McKenna Hantz picked up a fifth place finish.
Travelbee took the top honors on the uneven bars with her mark of 8.775 points. Layla Schoch earned 8.2 points for her routine and finished in third.
Travelbee won on the balance beam with a first place finish at 8.775 points. Freshman Kaylee Slusarski came up big for the Cards, earning 8.0 points and a fourth place finish for her stuck beam routine.
The Lady Cards were down by 0.8 going into the final rotation, the floor exercise. “We knew that we had to really put together some good performances to pull out the win. We were very proud of the girls coming through under pressure to finish the meet,” explained Coach Kim Nichols.
Makayla LeDouc of Western earned the first place finish on the event at 9.125 points. Coldwater claimed the next four spots to secure the win. Junior Sarah Forrester scored a personal best of 8.8 points to help boost the Cardinals, earning a second place finish overall.
In the all-around competition, Travelbee posted a season best mark of 34.75 points to earn top honors in the meet. Layla Schoch finished third overall with her tally of 33.05 points.
