QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Over 3,400 Consumer’s Energy customers in the eastern part of Branch County lost power during the overnight hours apparently because of windy conditions.
No official reason for the outage has been reported by the utility.
The highest recorded wind gust on Thursday at the Branch County Memorial Airport was 29 miles an hour. A forecast from the National Weather Service called for gusts on Thursday night up to 40 miles an hour.
The outages were first reported at about 11:00 p.m. Thursday night.
Crews got the power back on at about 6:30 a.m. but Quincy School officials had already called off classes for the day.
Consumer’s Energy had earlier indicated on its website outage page that full restoration would not take place until late morning.
The overnight power outage took in an area from I-69 east to near Booth Road and from near Girard Road south to East Central Road.
The high winds followed another soggy day of weather in Branch County.
The Michigan State University Extension Service weather recording station at the Bloom Dairy Farm west of Coldwater recorded just under one inch of rain Thursday. Nearly three inches of rain has fallen at that location since last Saturday.
