COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater High School hosted eight teams for a volleyball Mini Quad Tournament Wednesday night and wound up splitting their two matches.
The Lady Cardinals defeated Three Rivers 3-1 by scores of 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 25-15. They then lost to Battle Creek St. Philip three games to two by scores of 21-25, 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 12-15. St. Philip is the top ranked team in Division Four.
During the first set against Three Rivers, Olivia Foley broke the school record for Career Digs which was previously set by Jasmine Wellet two years ago who in turn broke the record that was previously held by Coldwater Coach Kelsey Closson (Bowers). The record was at 1,415.
Foley led in assists with 40 as well as digs with 49, she had 26 digs and 3 aces, Laynee Paarlberg led in kills with 27, while adding 31 assists and 25 digs, Abby Herman had 17 kills, 6 blocks, 37 digs, and 3 aces, Maddie Beckhusen had 24 digs, Amber Sunderland had 21 digs, Jenna Julien added 10 kills, and Allison Miller had 9 kills
Coldwater will face Battle Creek Lakeview in the opening round of the Sturgis District Tournament Monday night at 6:00 p.m. Live coverage on AM 1590 and FM 95.5 WTVB will begin at 5:45 p.m.
Bronson split their two matches Wednesday night at the Coldwater Mini Quad. They defeated Battle Creek St. Philip in the first round 3-1 (25-15, 25-27, 25-16, 26-24) and then lost to Parma Western 3-1 (25-12, 18-25, 24-26, 20-25).
