JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – At the MHSAA Division 3 Cross Country Regional Meet held at Ella Sharp Park in Jackson on Friday, the Bronson girls qualified as a team for the State Finals next Saturday at Michigan International Speedway with a third place finish. Quincy was 11th. Union City did not have enough runners for a team score. Grace Welch led the Vikings with an eighth place finish. Alison Fish was 18th. Quincy’s Avery Rufenacht earned a medal and a trip to the State Finals as an individual as she finished 7th.
Bronson was fifth in the boys meet while Quincy was eighth. Union City did not have enough runners for the team score. Quincy’s Rhett Reif and Bronson’s Luis Ortiz earned top 15 medals and trips to the State Finals as individuals. Reif finished 6th and his of time of 16:39 made him the fastest freshman in Quincy’s history. It also put him on the 5th spot on the Ten Fastest Boys 5K times in Quincy’s history. Ortiz finished 10th with a time of 16:55.7. Ashton Wells was 17th and missed a trip to the State Finals by two spots.
Today, Coldwater’s cross country teams will run at the Division 2 Regional at Portage West Middle School.
Also on today’s schedule: in volleyball, Coldwater will host the inaugural Interstate 8-Wolverine Showcase. Joining the Cardinals in representing the I-8 will be Harper Creek, Marshall, Pennfield, and Western; representing the Wolverine Conference will be Edwardsburg, Otsego, Sturgis, Three Rivers, and Vicksburg. The Coldwater JV and freshman teams will close out their seasons at the Interstate 8 Invitational at Hastings, while Homer will host Bronson, Quincy, Union City, and the other Big 8 schools for their conference tournament. And in girls swimming, Coldwater will be at the Harper Creek Invitational.
