COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Updates on enrollment numbers at the Branch Area Careers Center and in the Branch Intermediate School District adult education program were presented to the BISD Board of Trustees Wednesday.
Career and Technical Education Director Randy Sowles said enrollment at the Careers Center was up from 504 students last year to 518. Sowles added enrollment in the BISD has increased to nearly 1,800 students.
He reported overall enrollment has increased by 45 students and the number of students from Branch County schools has gone up by 15 to 454, which means 87 percent of the students at the Careers Center are from the BISD.
Meanwhile, Superintendent Kris Jenkins said Adult Education enrollment is higher than last year when it was offered by Coldwater Community Schools.
She said there are 42 people enrolled to get their G.E.D.. Jenkins added there are 91 students taking English as a Second Language. The 133 participants in Adult Ed tops last year’s figure of 89 students.
Because of the high demand for E.S.L., Jenkins says the two teachers who were supposed to have been working every other night are teaching every evening. There are two substitutes as well.
