JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, IN (WTVB) – An Angola man was injured early Sunday morning in a crash just south of the Michigan-Indiana state line.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department reports the crash happened at about 5:15 a.m. in the area of State Road 120 and County Road 700 North.
When Sheriff’s deputies first arrived, they located a vehicle off the north side of the roadway down a steep embankment. An initial crash scene investigation indicated that the 2006 Hummer H-3 driven by 32 year old Erick Manuel Ortiz of Angola had been traveling East on 120 and failed to negotiate a curve at the intersection of 700 North.
The vehicle then went off the road and rolled several times down the steep embankment before coming to a rest.
Seat belts were in use at the time of the crash. Ortiz was able to pull himself from the vehicle and was taken by ambulance to Cameron Memorial Community Hospital in Angola for treatment of his injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were Fremont Police, Fremont Fire Rescue, Steuben County EMS, and Steuben County Communications.
