JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, IN (WTVB) – A contractor for a northern Indiana utility company was apparently electrocuted Thursday morning while working on a utility pole west of Fremont, Indiana.
The Steuben County Sheriff’s Department says their deputies along with other area First Responders were called to the area of State Road 120 near County Road 25 East at about 9:30 a.m. on a report of a person being actively electrocuted.
They found a man partially in a hole in the ground at the base of a utility pole and he appeared to be deceased.
Deputies and First Responders were unable to approach the victim initially due to live electrical wires near the him.
Once NIPSCO officials arrived, the victim was recovered from the hole and identified as 29 year old Cody Griffin of Reed, Kentucky.
The incident remains under investigation by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office. Assisting the Sheriff’s Office at the scene were the Fremont Police Department, Fremont Fire Department, Steuben County EMS, the Steuben County Coroner’s Office, Steuben County REMC, NIPSCO, and the Fremont Community Schools Transportation Department.
