ORLAND, IN (WTVB) – The Bronson Fire Department was among nearly a half dozen fire departments who were called in Sunday afternoon to battle a fast moving fire at the Walden Woods Campground near Orland, Indiana.
The fire ended up destroying 16 trailers and nine sheds. No injuries were reported.
Mutual aid was requested by the Orland Fire Department for Bronson firefighters at 3:55 p.m.. They responded with a tanker and manpower.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says, “the trees in the area also were burning, several of which were hollow, which caused safety concerns for firefighters working near them. Several tree tops broke and were hung up, commonly referred to as “widow makers”, one of which narrowly missed several firefighters once it fell to the ground. A tree service company was called in to mitigate the hazard.”
Several pictures posted on Facebook showed many of the structures were nothing more but charred ruins after the fire was put out.
The cause of the fire is not known yet but it is under investigation.
