COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The City of Coldwater’s Haunted Forest is the latest event to fall victim to precautions that are being exercised this fall due to the concerns over mosquitos carrying Eastern Equine Encephalitis.
The city announced Wednesday that they will be canceling the annual Haunted Forest event which was scheduled for next weekend on October 11 and 12 in Rotary Park.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has recommended to local officials that they consider postponing, rescheduling or canceling outdoor activities that are held at or after dusk due to the potential risk of exposure to EEE.
Coldwater officials say the weather forecast continues to call for warmer than average temperatures with occasional rain next week.
That means that the number of mosquitos will not be sufficiently reduced before the event. With this in mind, the City has decided not to put people at risk and is canceling the event.
