BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – A Battle Creek church has announced it has paid off nearly $4 million in medical debts for residents in Branch and three other southwest Michigan counties following a fundraising campaign.
Victory Life Church pastor James Sunnock says the church made the gifts to people below the poverty line with no strings attached.
Fox 17 reports the non-denominational Christian church which has over 2,000 members worked with nonprofit RIP Medical Debt to help cover the costs for 3,500 eligible people.
RIP Medical Debt has helped clear over $800 million in debt.
The effort by Victory Life Church started when a church member approached Sunnock about getting some assistance for her eye surgery which she needed or else she would go blind.
