COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Kalamazoo man who was one of three suspects arrested for the December 28, 2018 break-in at Ed’s Auto and Trailer Sales in Union City was given a prison sentence of between two and five years Monday in Branch County Circuit Court.
29-year-old Alex Michael Mathews had earlier entered guilty pleas to charges of breaking and entering with intent and to receiving and concealing between $1,000 and $20,000 in stolen goods. Two other counts of breaking and entering with intent were dismissed in exchange for his pleas.
Mathews must also pay over $5,400 in restitution.
According to Michigan Department of Corrections records, Mathews has a criminal history that dates back to 2007. He was sentenced to two to 15 years in another breaking and entering case out of Kalamazoo County this past June.
He was also convicted for the August 2009 crimes of Breaking and Entering, Home Invasion and assaulting and resisting a police officer in St. Joseph County.
