KENT COUNTY, MI (WTVB) – Health officials say the deadly mosquito-borne disease Eastern Equine Encephalitis has reached two more counties in west Michigan.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has confirmed that a deer in Kent County died from the disease and a horse in Newaygo County has tested positive for it.
While no human cases have been confirmed in Branch County, Health Officer Becky Burns one person in the county has been tested. The results have not come back yet.
None of the eight human cases of the virus found in Michigan so far this year were detected in Kent or Newaygo counties. EEE has been detected in 13 counties across Michigan.
