COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After serving as the Interim Director for the past three months since Mark Bartell retired, Joe Scheid has been named as the City of Coldwater’s Director of Public Safety.
Six candidates were interviewed for the position. Three finalists were then interviewed for a second time from whom Scheid was selected.
Scheid has lived in the Coldwater community for 23 years.
After graduating from Grand Valley State University and the GVSU law enforcement academy, Scheid began his career with Coldwater Police Department in December of 1996.
He was later promoted to Corporal and Road Patrol Sergeant in 2001.
Scheid was named the Deputy Director of Public Safety in 2012.
In addition to his law enforcement responsibilities, Scheid became licensed as a Firefighter I & 2 and assisted the Director in administration of the Public Safety Department.
Scheid has also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Kellogg Community College for ten years.
He lives in Branch County with his wife Jodie and two daughters.
