JACKSON, MI (WTVB) – Coldwater High School’s Elka Machan won her fifth cross-country race in sixth starts this season and set a new CHS record with a time of 18:28.7 on Saturday at the Jackson Invitational which was held at Ella Sharp Park.
Machan’s time eclipsed the school mark of 18:36.2, established by Becca Schott at the State Finals in 2012. Machan led her teammates to a seventh place finish in the 14 team field. Also winning one of the top 30 medals was Coldwater’s Legend Szafranski in 13th place and Carolyn Potter in 23rd place.
Kyle Foulk was the only medal winner for the Coldwater boys as he took 14th place in the race while leading his teammates to a ninth place finish.
Quincy and Union City competed at the Pittsford Invitational in a meet that was divided into classes. Quincy finished second in the boys freshman and junior races. Rhett and Jacob Reif took the top two spots in the freshman race while Eric Buchart was fourth in the junior race.
Union City was sixth in the senior race. Colin Priest was 16th while Owen Needham was 17th.
In the girls races, Quincy was fifth for the freshman, second for the sophomores and ninth for the juniors. Kailey Allman was ninth in the freshman race, Elise Wright was 11th and Zoe Smith was 12th in the sophomore race while Avery Rufenacht was 11th in the junior race.
Union City’s Kyla Burdick was 11th in the freshman race.
