COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities Board of Directors approved three bids totaling nearly $300,000 Tuesday for equipment that is considered to be critical for the construction of an electric substation on Butters Avenue near the H.C. Starck factory.
CSI Utility Sales representing Siemens had the winning bids of just under $140,000 for nine circuit breakers and about $84,000 for two circuit switchers.
Midwest Utility Sales representing ABB had the winning bid of over $75,000 for six metering units.
Siemens breakers and circuit switchers are currently installed at the Jonesville substation and electric engineer Andrew Cameron said there have been no issues since they were installed in early 2017.
The proposed in-service date for the Butters Avenue site is October 31st, 2020.
CBPU officials say the Butters Avenue substation will alleviate loading restrictions at the Garfield Road substation and improve the reliability of roughly 5,000 customers connected to the Garfield Road and Bennett Street substations.
Cameron said all costs submitted were below the original estimate.
