COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The “Road Closed” signs are in place as pavement cutting on North Hanchett Street by Milnes Plaza began Tuesday morning.
City Planner Dean Walrack says North Hanchett between U.S. 12 and Harrison Street will be closed until about October 4, at which time the new temporary one-way configuration will be put in place.
Walrack says shortly after the North Hanchett work is completed the utility work in the alley will begin.
North Hanchett between U.S. 12 and Harrison Street will become a temporary one way street to help alleviate the loss of parking during the construction of the Lofts at Milnes Plaza development.
Traffic will be allowed to only go to the north, and 13 parallel parking stalls will be installed on the west side of the street.
It remains to be seen if that portion of North Hanchett will become a one way street on a permanent basis.
Meantime, South Jefferson Street, which has been closed most of the summer for reconstruction from U.S. 12 to East Park Avenue, has now reopened to traffic.
In addition to paving, the project included the replacement of curb, gutter, sidewalks, water systems, storm systems, and sewer systems.
