BURLINGTON, MI (WTVB) – A house and a garage were destroyed in a fire that broke out early Tuesday morning near Turtle Lake in Calhoun County’s Burlington Township.
The fire at 835 Turtle Lake Road, which is just south of the Turtle Creek Golf Course, was reported at about 2:15 a.m..
Burlington Township Fire Chief Ken Yeakey says a man and woman in the house managed to get out and report the fire from a neighbor’s house. He says the man woke up and smelled smoke. The fire was then found in a wall next to a television.
The home was fully engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived. Burlington firefighters got mutual aid from Union City, Athens and Tekonsha crews in the form of manpower, tankers and engines.
Crews initially cleared the scene at about 5:30 a.m. but were called back about a half hour later to put out hot spots.
There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation with the assistance of the Michigan State Police Fire Marshall division.
A dollar estimate on the damage has also not been totaled up.
