COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – While plans continue to move forward for the construction of the new Branch County Jail, there are still problems with the old one.
Branch County Sheriff John Pollack told the Board of Commissioners during their Thursday work session that his department foiled an attempt by inmates last weekend to breach the walls of the facility.
He said it was the second time it’s happened in two months. Pollack said the suspects in the case will be charged.
In addition, Pollack said that the freezer in the jail broke down last Saturday which was caused by an ice buildup on the compressor.
A freezer trailer had to be brought in to keep the food while repairs were being made. Melting ice also got into the cooler which caused it to short out. Everything was fixed by Monday.
