COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Almost one year after the Branch County Board of Commissioners approved the future scheduling of a public hearing to allow for comments on proposed amendments to the Branch County Memorial Airport Zoning ordinance, the hearing was scheduled during the Commissioners Thursday work session for April 30.
The Commissioners originally approved the public hearing right after the COVID-19 pandemic started on March 27, 2020. Former Commission Chair Ted Gordon said at the time that the public hearing will take place sometime after the COVID-19 outbreak quiets down and things get back to normal.
Airport Manager Joe Best told the Commissioners during their work session on Thursday the updating of the ordinance started over the height of trees near the airport.
But Best says there have been disputes with nearby property owner Robert Worley.
Worley has claimed in the past the airport board was harassing him.
The 13-page ordinance was adopted in 1972 and amended in 2002. Best said a year ago that the amendments to the ordinance have been reviewed by the law firm of Foster and Swift as well as the Michigan Department of Transportation aeronautics division.
He also said the amendments clear up the ordinance language and had nothing to do with the wind turbine controversy in northwest Branch County.
