JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, MI (WTVB) – A man described by Michigan State Police as a parole absconder was locked up in the Hillsdale County Jail Wednesday after he allegedly raped and tried to drown his girlfriend.
State Police from the Jackson Post investigated the alleged assault near Baw Beese Lake in Jefferson Township Tuesday.
Hillsdale County Jail booking records indicate the suspect is a 22-year-old man from Hillsdale.
After the alleged incident, the suspect was eventually found hiding in a Jefferson Township bean field by a Michigan State Police helicopter and canine unit.
The suspect was lodged on a parole absconder detainer. Troopers say additional charges are pending.
They were assisted by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit.
