COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners voted during their Friday work session to bring forward to their regular meeting next week a request from the Council on Aging to install a computer-based panic button system.
Amy Duff from the Commission on Aging told Commissioners that they have been dealing with multiple concerns regarding safety at the Burnside Center over the last six months.
She said the plan calls for staff members to wear a panic button while working in the building. A stationary button would also be installed at the front desk.
Two quotes were submitted to the COA. They recommended a quote from Response Technologies of about $14,800 be accepted based on the county’s past experience with them. The county currently uses Response for some of its departments.
Duff said the Response quote was about $6,500 higher than one submitted by Rath Nurse Call Services of Wisconsin because Response would do their own installation while Rath uses a third party.
Response Technologies included the installation in their quote. Since it was not in this year’s budget, Duff said they would use funds from their building account to pay for the system.
