COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – It may be awhile before the Michigan State Police investigation into Monday’s fatal vehicle-pedestrian accident on I-69 near the Jonesville Road exit north of Coldwater is wrapped up.
But contrary to some social media commentary, State Police say it was not a hit and run accident.
911 logs indicate it was initially reported as a hit and run, but that was not the case.
The vehicle involved stopped a couple of hundred feet south of where the pedestrian was struck and killed along the shoulder of the interstate.
According to the preliminary investigation by Michigan State Police, the victim was a 67 year old man from Riverview, Michigan who was on the interstate shoulder apparently due to some sort of maintenance issue with his vehicle.
The incident tied up traffic for miles on the southbound side of the interstate and jammed up nearby secondary roads in the Coldwater area for over four hours.
