ANGOLA, IN (WTVB) – A 27-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy are in custody after the Angola Shell Station was robbed early Wednesday morning which led to a pursuit that went through Steuben County.
Angola Police say the robbery took place at about 1:15 a.m. as an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes were stolen at gunpoint.
Police pursued the suspect’s vehicle to Fremont before it went to I-69 and headed south.
Two tires were flattened on the vehicle after stop sticks were deployed at Ashley causing it to stop in a ditch.
The two suspects tried to make a run for it. The 16-year-old, who was wanted out of Allen County for escape, was caught a short time later.
The driver, 27-year-old Jared Dean Starkey, was caught at about 6:20 a.m..
Angola Police say the suspect’s vehicle was stolen out of Fort Wayne. They got assistance from 10 northeast Indiana police agencies.
The crime is still under investigation.
