UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Village of Union City has announced that due to wide spread abuse, it will be closing its compost site on M-60 starting Friday, September 13 in order to comply with state regulations and standards
A post on the village’s Facebook page indicates there has been an illegal dumping of tires, building material, furniture, and other trash.
It went on to say there has been wide spread use of the site by people from outside of Union City.
The Village recently installed cameras at the site and the Union City Police Department has taken a “zero tolerance” policy for violations to the posted rules or illegal activity.
When this situation is remedied, the village will examine a procedure to help alleviate the abuse.
Residents will be notified when the compost site is reopened as well as the new procedure.
