COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council approved a pair of traffic control measures for the northwest side of the city Monday night.
One would prohibit parking on the east side of Northshore Drive from 500 feet north of the U.S. 12 right-of-way to Bishop Avenue.
Coldwater City Manager Keith Baker said they want to take care of a parking issue on Northshore that came up during the first year of use of the new youth baseball and softball diamonds and other public events.
The Council also approved a resolution to prohibit heavy commercial through truck traffic on Western Avenue and on State Street from Western to Grand Street. Heavy commercial trucks are defined in the resolution as trucks with three axles or more and tractor trailers.
Signs have been posted for many years but the resolution would give police the authority for enforcement.
Meanwhile, the City Council officially approved a request from Baker to make North Hanchett between U.S. 12 and Harrison a temporary one way street to help alleviate the loss of parking during the construction of the Lofts at Milnes Plaza development. Traffic would be allowed to only go to the north and 13 parallel parking stalls will be installed on the west side of the street. It remains to be seen if that portion of North Hanchett will become a one way street on a permanent basis.
