COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater City Council will be asked Monday night to approve a request from City Manager Keith Baker to make North Hanchett Street between U.S. 12 and Harrison Street a one way street on a temporary basis.
The Coldwater Downtown Development Authority gave their approval to the proposal a couple of weeks ago to help alleviate the loss of parking during the construction of the Lofts at Milnes Plaza development. Baker presented the idea after nearby business owners approached him.
He said this would be similar to what was done on South Monroe between U.S. 12 and Pearl during the Chandler Plaza parking lot project. While South Monroe has angled parking, Baker said there would be parallel parking with 13 stalls on the west side Hanchett near the Lamplighter Lounge. According to Baker, the one way traffic would head north between U.S. 12 and Harrison in order for drivers to access the Upson parking lot.
Also on the packed agenda for Monday night’s City Council meeting will be a request to prohibit parking on the east side of Northshore Drive from 500 feet north of U.S.12 to Bishop Avenue and to prohibit all heavy commercial truck traffic on Western Avenue between U.S. 12 and the curve at State Street and on State Street from Western Avenue to Grand Street.
The Council will also be asked to introduce ordinances that would update the city’s noise and tree ordinances. They will consider a request to establish a Neighborhood Improvement Authority for the Thompson Boulevard area and schedule a public hearing for the September 23 meeting.
