COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was sentenced Wednesday after he entered guilty pleas to a pair of second degree child abuse charges June 17, 2019 in Branch County Circuit Court.
20-year-old Jeffrey Wendell Ledford was ordered to serve concurrent three to 10 year terms in the Michigan State Department of Corrections. In exchange for his guilty pleas, another second degree child abuse count was dismissed by prosecutors.
Ledford was arrested following a Coldwater Police Department investigation. According to court records, police investigated incidents involving his five month old son which took place in March 2019.
Police say the investigation began shortly after the baby was taken to the emergency department at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital with unexplained head trauma. The boy was flown to Bronson Methodist Hospital where he was treated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and later discharged.
