COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Two cases filed against a Coldwater man following alleged violent domestic incidents with a female acquaintance just over a year ago have been bound over to Branch County Circuit Court.
A Branch County District Court preliminary exam was held on Tuesday for 44-year-old Michael Christman who is facing four counts of criminal sexual conduct in connection with the alleged rape of a woman. He is also facing charges of unlawful imprisonment and using a weapon to commit a felony.
He is scheduled to appear in Circuit Court for a pre-trial conference on September 30.
According to the Michigan Department of Corrections website, Christman is serving time in the Muskegon Correctional Facility on charges of resisting, assaulting or obstructing a police officer and escape from lawful custody after he got into a fight with police last August at a apartment on Coldwater’s east side.
After he was taken into custody, Christman tried to escape but was captured a short distance away. The earliest he can be released from prison on those charges is next January.
