COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater man was struck by a pickup truck and critically injured Monday afternoon as he was crossing U.S. 12 at the intersection with Jefferson Street.
Coldwater Police continue to investigate the incident which took place just before 1:30 p.m..
Acting Coldwater Public Safety Department Director Joe Scheid says according to a witness, 31-year-old Brian Snyder was nearly struck by a vehicle as he was walking across East Chicago.
Scheid reports that after gesturing at that driver who was able to stop in time, Snyder reportedly walked into the path of a F-150 pickup truck which was driven by 54-year-old Duane Fullington of Montgomery who was not injured in the crash.
A medical helicopter was requested by rescue workers to land at the nearby ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital’s helipad.
But due to weather conditions which included thunderstorms in southwest Michigan, the helicopter was unable to fly.
Snyder was taken by ambulance to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. A hospital spokesperson said on Tuesday morning he was in critical condition.
East Chicago near the scene of the accident had to be shut down and traffic was detoured onto the I-69 Business Loop until about 3:00 p.m. while police conducted their investigation.
Michigan State Police, Life Care Ambulance, Coldwater firefighters and the Coldwater Department of Municipal Services assisted at the scene.
