UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Union City Community Schools Board of Education voted during a special meeting Friday morning to hire Jennifer Johnson as the new principal at Union City Elementary School and Jamie Thomas as the new Union City Middle School Principal.
Johnson will be taking over for Lori Vaccaro, who is retiring after a 30-year career in education, which included the last 14 years as the Union City Elementary Principal.
Johnson has worked for 17 years in the Homer Community School District, where she most recently served as the District School Improvement Coordinator. She will officially begin her new duties in Union City July 1, 2019.
Thomas will take over as Middle School Principal for Jeff Hammond, who announced his resignation in April.
She has been in the Union City school district for nearly 15 years. Thomas has been a seventh and eighth grade math teacher at the middle school and served this past season as the Union City varsity girls softball coach.
