COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Branch County along with Hillsdale and St. Joseph Counties in Michigan and Steuben County in northeast Indiana are under a Flash Flood Watch until 5:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The watch covers the southern border counties of Michigan along with all of Indiana and Ohio. To show we are not alone in what has turned out to be a soggy spring and early summer, there are flash flood watches in effect from northeast Missouri all the way east to New Jersey.
The National Weather Service says heavy rain is possible through Thursday afternoon. The saturated ground from recent rainfall coupled with any heavy rain that falls from slow moving thunderstorms could quickly runoff and create flooding. Rainfall amounts between one to three inches is expected.
Rapid rises of streams, creeks and rivers are possible given the saturated soils. Roads in poor drainage areas may become impassable with water flowing across them.
