COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The four finalists to be Branch County’s new Public Defender were interviewed Tuesday by the Board of Commissioners.
County commissioner and former Branch County Prosecutor Terri Norris could not take part because she is one of the candidates for the position.
The other finalists are Cameron Harwell of Cadillac, Frank Fleishmann of Charlotte, and Matt Glaser of Marshall.
Once the office starts to operate, it will include the Public Defender as well as a deputy defender, contract attorneys, staff, and an investigator as needed.
The Michigan Indigent Defense Commission is providing the funding to Branch and other counties in Michigan.
The Commission was created by the state in 2013 in order to provide attorneys for indigent defendants who can not afford legal counsel.
