COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Branch County Board of Commissioners Tuesday officially hired Clark Construction to be the construction manager for the new Branch County Jail project at a cost of just under $966,000.
Clark’s headquarters are in Lansing, Michigan. The company also has offices in Auburn Hills and Alpena.
The selection came after Commissioners interviewed four candidates for the project.
County Administrator Bud Norman is hoping work on the jail can start in the fall.
Besides Clark, the other candidates interviewed were Granger Construction, Performance Services, and Skillman Corporation.
Clark was chosen in part because their price was over $200,000 less than Granger Construction.
There were six sealed proposals that were originally submitted to the county, with the top four candidates selected by the Jail Committee.
Each commissioner was given a worksheet after the interviews and were asked to rate each company on several categories.
The scoring covered such areas as relevant experience, qualifications, timeliness and local preference.
