COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – An ordinance covering the use of consumer fireworks in the City of Coldwater is scheduled to come back before the City Council Monday night for a second and final reading.
The State of Michigan amended its 2012 Fireworks Safety Act last December which allows local communities to reduce the number of days and hours consumer fireworks can be used in their municipalities.
The cutoff time for fireworks on New Year’s Eve would be 1:00 a.m.. On all other days fireworks can shot off, the fireworks would have to end by 11:45 p.m.
The first infraction would result in a $100 fine, the second offense within a year would cost $250 and if the third offense takes place within a year the fine would be $500.
Some City Council members raised concerns last month about potential fines of up to $1,000 for violations in the original ordinance that was up for consideration.
