COLOMA, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, the season for the Bronson Vikings came to an heartbreaking end Saturday as top-ranked Pewamo-Westphalia rallied for a 5-4 victory in the Division Three Super Regionals at Coloma.
The Vikings were leading 4-1 before P-W scored two runs in the last of the sixth and two more in the last of the seventh to advance to the state semifinals in East Lansing next Friday. The winning run came home on a bases loaded two out single.
The Super Regionals replaced the quarterfinal round in the new format for the Michigan High School Athletic Association baseball tournament. Bronson won a regional title and became a final eight team by defeating Buchanan 6-3 thanks to a four run third inning.
Brendan Withington and Kameron Haviland both had two hits against the Bucks while Brett Sikorski doubled. Haviland struck out seven in five-plus innings to get the win.
The Vikings finished 29-12, which included a Big Eight Conference title with an undefeated conference record of 14-0.
