UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The Bronson Vikings hope the momentum they have generated in recent weeks will carry over to Wednesday afternoon’s Division Three Regional semi-final game at Union City’s Alumni Field against Watervliet.
The Vikings have won seven straight and 14 of their last 17. Bronson captured the Union City district championship last Saturday as they collected 29 hits in their victories over Galesburg-Augusta and Delton-Kellogg. Watervliet won the weather-delayed Bloomingdale district title on Monday.
The winner of today’s game will advance to the regional finals Saturday in Coloma to face either Buchanan or Parchment. Under the new MHSAA baseball tournament format this year, the two regional final winners at one site will then meet in what is being called a Super Regional. The Super Regional has replaced the Tuesday quarterfinal game in order to give teams more flexibility with their pitching staffs.
Interstate 8 Conference co-champion Marshall will face Stevensville-Lakeshore Wednesday evening at Lowe Field in the Division Two Regional semifinals starting at 6:00 p.m.. Marshall won the Coldwater District title last Saturday while Lakeshore stunned sixth-ranked Edwardsburg on Monday to win the district at South Haven.
The winner of the Marshall-Lakeshore game will advance to the regional final Saturday at Edwardsburg to face either Otsego or Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.
In girls soccer, Marshall advanced to the MHSAA Division Two Regional Finals at Spring Arbor University with a 1-0 victory Tuesday night over Dexter. The Red Hawks will face Gull Lake for the regional title Friday night at 7:00 p.m. after the Blue Devils defeated St. Joseph 4-1 in the other semifinal Tuesday.
The winner of the Spring Arbor regional title will play in the state semifinals Tuesday night at Portage Northern.
