UNION CITY, MI (WTVB) – The new 150,000 gallon water tower in the Village of Union City is now in place.
A mammoth crane was brought in last week to lift the stem in place. A large ball was then placed 148 feet above the ground the following day and then welded onto the stem. The next step will be the painting of the tower.
Phoenix Fabricators worked on the new tank at the corner of Dirks Drive and Goodwin Drive.
The old 75,000 gallon tank that was put up in 1923 is scheduled to come down next year.
Union City Village Manager Chris Mathis says the new tower will satisfy the village’s growing water needs.
Part of the funding for the water tower project came from the United State Department of Agricultural Rural Development.
