COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – After a discussion that lasted for over a half hour, the Coldwater City Council Tuesday night gave city staff direction on what kind of recreational marijuana facilities would be appropriate in the future.
City Attorney Megan Angell said this does not reverse the Council’s decision last December to temporarily opt out of permitting the establishments while the State of Michigan created a distribution chain and licensing regulations.
Mayor Tom Kramer suggested the Council consider a motion which would direct city staff and the Planning Commission to start drafting ordinances covering retail recreational marijuana stores once the City decides to opt in.
The motion passed 7-1. The Council also decided not to set a number of how many retail stores would be allowed for the time being.
They also approved motions to have city staff and the Planning Commission start drafting ordinances for the possible eventual opting in of marijuana growing operations, processors, secured transporters, safety compliance or testers and microbusinesses.
