COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Many of the top boys and girls track and field athletes from Coldwater, Quincy, Bronson, Tekonsha and Union City competed Tuesday in the annual Daily Reporter Branch Area Best Track Meet at Cardinal Field.
No team scores were kept. For some, it was their final performance of the season but for others, it was the last tune up for the Lower Peninsula Track and Field Finals this weekend.
Quincy had nine first place finishes in the boys meet while Coldwater had seven. Three Cardinals were double winners. Matt Gipple won the 100 and the long jump, Kyle Foulk was first in the 400 and the 800 while Dylan Targgart won the discus and shot put. DeAndre Douglas of Coldwater won the pole vault. Quincy’s Ian Trall won both of the hurdle races.
Other Oriole winners were Devan Fisher in the 200, Erik Butchart in the 1600 and Tae’Sean Bodley in the high jump. Quincy swept all four relay races. Luis Ortiz was the lone Bronson winner in the 3200.
Quincy had seven first place finishes in the girls meet while Coldwater had five and Bronson had four. Quincy’s Jessica Holcomb and Bronson’s Jenna Salek were double winners. Holcomb won the 100 and the long jump while Salek finished first in the 200 and the 400.
Other Quincy winners were Madelyn Allman in the 300 hurdles, Emily Hollenbaugh in the high jump and Makinzie Groves in the pole vault. Other Bronson winners were Xochitl Garcia in the 3200 and Madelyn Thompson in the discus.
Coldwater winners were Elka Machan in the 800, Kathy Potter in the 1600 and Olivia Foley in the shot put. Union City’s Lillian Bambacht won the 100 hurdles.
Quincy won the 400 and 800 relays while Coldwater finished first in the 1600 and 3200 relays.
