COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – In high school baseball, the Coldwater Cardinals advanced to the MHSAA Division Two District semifinals Tuesday night with a 6-1 victory over Harper Creek at Lowe Field.
Coldwater snapped a 1-1 tie with a pair of runs in the third and then added three insurance runs in the sixth. Winning pitcher Zach Rigot had three hits while Brady McFarland had two hits and drove in two runs. Bryce Lafferty pitched the last two innings to earn the save.
The Cardinals will face Marshall on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. with the winner facing either Olivet or Battle Creek Pennfield for the district title on Saturday afternoon.
Brett Sikorski and Kameron Haviland combined on a one-hitter as Bronson advanced to the Division Three District semifinals with a 1-0 victory at Vermontville Maple Valley Tuesday.
Bronson only had two hits but they made a first inning run stand up. Sikorski struck out 10 in six-and-a-third innings of work. Haviland earned the save by getting the final two outs.
The Vikings will face Galesburg-Augusta at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Alumni Field in Union City. The winner plays either Union City or Delton-Kellogg for the district title.
Union City concluded the regular season with a non-tournament doubleheader split against Constantine. The Chargers won the opener 3-1 but dropped the nightcap 12-9. First game winning pitcher Larson Kever drove in all three runs for the Chargers. He struck out eight in going the distance on the mound.
Constantine pulled out the nightcap with a five-run seventh inning. Kever had four RBI’s in the nightcap.
Quincy used a nine run fifth inning to defeat Athens 13-3, also in non-tournament play. Matt Hagaman had two hits for the Orioles while Andrew Albright and Drew Schley both had two RBI’s. Chandler Locke was the winning pitcher.
