BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – Bronson claimed the Big 8 Conference baseball and softball championships Friday with doubleheader sweeps against Union City in games that were moved from Union City to Bronson due to wet field conditions.
The Viking baseball team swept their twinbill by scores of 1-0 and 8-0 to complete regular season at 24-11 and a perfect 14-0 in the Big 8. Brett Sikorski drove in Mason Harris with an RBI double for the only run in the opener. Sikorski also picked up the pitching victory, with 5-2/3 innings of one-hit ball with four walks and 11 strikeouts. Kameron Haviland picked up the save with 3 strikeouts. Larson Kever picked up the hard-luck loss for Union City, allowing 4 hits with a walk and 8 strikeouts, and Brady Katz had the Chargers’ only hit. In the second game, Haviland was the winning pitcher for Bronson, allowing 3 hits with one walk and 8 strikeouts in 5-2/3 inning of work. Blaine Robinson finished the game, allowing no hits. Mason Harris had two hits, and Hudson Wotta had a 2-run double. Brendan Stuchell took the loss for Union CIty, whose record falls to 13-14 overall; their 6-8 record in the Big 8 ties them with Jonesville for fourth in the final league standings.
Bronson also celebrated a trio of individual milestones during the doubleheader. Hudson Wotta picked up his 100th career RBI, Kameron Haviland had his 100th career hit, and Brett Sikorski notched his 100th career strikeout.
Over at the softball diamond, the Lady Vikings defeated Union City by scores of 2-0 and 9-2 to improve to 23-10 overall, 13-1 in the Big 8 and claim a share of the league title with Quincy. Lynsey Smith tossed a complete-game 2-hitter with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts for the win, while Quinn Adams gave up both runs on 3 hits for the hard-luck loss. Aubrey Ballou was the winning pitcher in the nightcap, allowing 5 hits with 7 strikeouts and one walk. Madison Ratkowski had a pair of hits, while Karissa Gest smacked a double. Autumn Carpenter had a single and a double for Union City. The Chargers drop to 6-20-1 overall, 5-9 in the Big 8.

Coldwater will play Plainwell next Tuesday in the MHSAA Division 2 District Semifinals at Plainwell, thanks to the Trojans shutting out Pennfield 2-0 Friday night.
