COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) -While a majority of Branch County Commissioners are in favor of adding another road patrol deputy, they had to table the request from Sheriff John Pollack during Thursday’s work session in order for the planning process on the new County Jail to finish up for an upcoming bond sale.
A municipal bond sale will be held in the next few months to help finance the new Branch County Jail. The county’s Standard and Poor’s bond rating is currently double A minus which is at the low end of a “high quality” rating.
County Treasurer Ann Vrablic said once the project planning is done and the estimated cost is known, then the bonding process can begin.
She said the county will be asked to give information to Standard and Poor’s pertaining to the county’s financial health.
Vrablic said when the bond sale takes place, banks and other investors will be submitting bids. The winning bid will be the one that will charge the lowest true interest rate on the money being borrowed.
A discussion during a work session last December indicated Commissioners wanted to add a deputy once the bonds were secured for the jail project.
