COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – Even though the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Branch County Sunday afternoon and evening, the area only received heavy rain out of the system that is also bringing cooler tempertaures to start the week.
A portion of St. Joseph County was put under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, but the storm broke up before it reached Branch County.
Officials with the National Weather Service are confirming that a tornado touched down in southeastern Barry County.
The EF-0 tornado was recorded just before 6:30 p.m. Sunday just north of the town of Lacey, between Dowling and Maple Grove Township.
Winds were estimated around 80 mph.
No one was injured, but the tornado did damage three barns on one farm and a telephone phone as well as several trees.
Officials say the event only lasted about 3-minutes.
