MASON, MI (WTVB) – In girls high school tennis, Coldwater presently has 11 points with one flight still to play Friday afternoon at the Division Two regionals in Mason. This is the highest regional point total for Coldwater since 1995.
Coldwater 1st doubles team of Mikaela Daoud and Payton Molnar is in the Regional Final Friday afternoon. They were unseeded heading into their flight but managed to defeat the second and third seeded teams on their way to the finals.
As for the other Coldwater results….
No. 1 singles player Meredith Grife advanced to the quarterfinals.
No. 2 singles player Faith Herendeen won her first round match and then almost pulled of the biggest upset of the tournament losing in the quarterfinals to the number one seed from Okemos 3-6, 6-3, 6-1
No. 3 singles player Melissa Vozar advanced to the quarterfinals.
No. 4 singles player Kelly Warner won her quarterfinal match before losing in the semifinals to the top seed from Okemos.
No. 2 doubles team of Amber Aguirre/Mae Blansit lost in the quarterfinals to a team from East Lansing 6-7, 6-2, 6-2
No. 3 doubles team of Loveleen Lalia/Elloree Madden defeated a team from Jackson in the quarterfinal before losing in the semifinals to the top seeded from Mason.
No. 4 doubles team of Brynn Niedzwiecki/Andrea Campos defeated a team from Lansing Waverly before losing to the second seeded team from East Lansing in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, The Bronson varsity girl’s tennis team finished their season with a seventh place finish at the MHSAA Division Four regionals in Niles and Berrien Springs.
—Middle School Tennis—
The Coldwater Legg Middle School tennis team fell to Marshall at home 7-1. Many of the matches were long, competitive affairs with the team of Alexis Wood and Josselyn Martinez victorious while Emma Madden and Claire Hawver lost in a tight tiebreaker.
One match remains with Harper Creek next Wednesday at home.
