QUINCY, MI (WTVB) – Quincy Fire Chief Michael Sherman says March was an unusually busy month for local firefighters as his department had to work 27 incidents including nine working building fires and eight brush and field fires.
The brush and field fires have been caused by a combination of unseasonably warm and dry weather.
Sherman said in a post on the department’s Facebook page that the increase in building fires kept crews in the entire county busier than normal.
He says he investigated every fire in the department’s jurisdiction with the assistance of the Coldwater Fire Marshal and they were found to be accidental in nature.
Sherman added, “The community should have no concern of a arsonist in the area, those rumors are simply not true.”
He is asking people to not get complacent in their basic fire safety practices at home or work. Many fires could be avoided by addressing simple issues before they lead to disaster.
Quincy firefighters are always available should you ever have any questions or would like to have them look at something that you may consider a hazard.
Despite all of the runs the Quincy firefighters have been called out on, there have been no injuries to crews or civilians.
