LANSING, MI (WTVB) – Legislation banning dialation and evacuation abortions in Michigan was passed by the House and Senate in Lansing Tuesday.
58th District Representative Eric Leutheuser voted in support of the bills saying “we must recognize that unborn children feel pain and should be treated with respect and dignity like any other human being. I will continue this fight to protect the unborn.”
Twelve states ban dismemberment abortions.
It’s only used when a late abortion is warranted due to defects in the fetus. This proposed change would only permit it when the mother’s life is in in jeopardy.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer says she will veto the bills.
Right to Life of Michigan says if she does, they will attempt a petition drive to let voters decide.
Federal judges have struck down similar laws in other states, and it could eventually wind up in the U.S. Supreme Court.
