COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – The Coldwater Police Department has released more details about a Monday afternoon armed robbery which led to the arrest of a suspect after a standoff on Peckham Street.
They say officers were dispatched to the armed robbery that took place just after 4:00 p.m. on South Jefferson Street. The alleged victim told police she had been robbed by a man who brandished a firearm and took money from her.
The subject fled the scene in a maroon colored Dodge Stratus. A short time later, Coldwater Police Department officers located a vehicle matching the description near a residence on Peckham Street.
Officers tried to contact the suspect at the residence and saw someone matching the description of the robbery suspect inside the residence.
Police say he would not answer the door or speak to officers at the scene.
After approximately one hour, officers were able to peacefully negotiate with three men inside the residence to come out. The three were detained without incident.
Coldwater Police then executed a search warrant and found items believed to be involved with the robbery.
After interviews were conducted, a Coldwater man was arrested and transported to the Branch County Jail, where he was lodged on Armed Robbery charges.
