COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) – A Coldwater Township teenager was ordered to serve between four and 15 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections Monday in Branch County Circuit Court after he entered a guilty plea to a charge of second degree criminal sexual conduct following a sexual assault on a 14-year-old girl during a party last December.
As part of a plea agreement, three other C.S.C. counts against 17-year-old Matthew Siler including a first degree charge were dropped in exchange for his plea. He got credit for 138 days for time already served in the Branch County Jail. Siler must also comply with the Michigan Sexual Offender Registry.
Siler was arrested following a Coldwater Police Department investigation.
Court documents indicate other party goers were unsuccessful in their attempts to get the suspect to stop. At one point, a friend of the victim reportedly cut Siler in the back with a pocket knife. A police report also indicated Siler and other teens were drinking alcohol at the party.
